Traces of our Colonial Past
Vivian Heijms and Silvan Vasilda, together with 30 people from Brabant, investigate the traces of our colonial past in Brabant. In collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum, this is exhibited through stories and portraits of everyone involved in the research, which are found in the Werksalon and in the museum. By participating in the research myself and taking part in the conversations, I see the colonial traces in my own thinking and learned about my own grandfather taking part in a colonial war in Indonesia. The research and the stories allow me to see what my own position is in this society, and force me to think more deeply about how and in what way I can use my position and free my platform for other voices that are less heard.
